Plus, we guarantee to get it there safely, and according to your schedule.

Availability

Door-to-door transport is the most popular option because it works almost anywhere. With a huge network of carriers running these routes daily, finding availability is rarely a problem.

Convenience

No terminals, no extra steps. We coordinate pickup at your home, office, or a nearby safe meeting spot—and deliver the same way at the destination—so you don’t have to arrange additional drop-offs or pick-ups.

Cheaper

Door-to-door is often the best value because it reduces time, hassle, and added terminal logistics. With more carriers offering door-to-door routes every day, pricing stays competitive while you get a simpler experience end-to-end.

Customer Testimonials

  • “I contacted Freedom Auto Transport under short notice and they delivered. Got my vehicle picked up in Dallas, TX the same day, it took about 3 days to get delivered. Driver contacted me prior to arrival on both ends and was very friendly. Very easy to do business with. Thanks again.”

    Theresa Webb

  • “I wanted to share my experience dealing with Freedom Auto Transport. Could not have gone any smoother. Called up Tuesday morning, had my vehicle picked up and on a trailer the very next day! Wow! Everyone I spoke to at Freedom was extremely helpful and friendly. Very pleased with my experience and would 10000% recommend Freedom to anyone that needs auto transport service. Thanks again..”

    Darlene Robertson

  • “Freedom was great, Dan S. with Freedom was the only carrier who could deliver on the dates I needed. I contacted several transporters, the prices and dates changed every 5 minutes. Dan was very helpful every step of the way, and extremely reasonable! I will use these guys from this point forward, make one call and it’s a done deal! Thanks Dan!”

  • Freedom Auto Transport runs a solid operation. Dorian is the reason I chose this carrier even though I had all but agreed to work with a different hauler. He was fast to return my calls, texted frequently, and used all his contacts to arrange a quick turnaround on the 4Runner I shipped. He almost managed to get a same day pick-up but the dealership I was working with couldn’t complete the paperwork in time for an evening pick up. Easy paperwork/signatures. No heavy sales pitch. Just familiarity with how the industry works, good relationships to leverage, and the urgency to help. I think he really feels good knowing he’s helping to deliver something meaningful to others. Ive used different companies each time I’ve shipped a vehicle but the next time I need a car or truck shipped, I want to work with Dorian. Cheers!

Taylor the dispatcher manager was quick on sending me the documents to sign and was very professional. Alot of companies prices were much higher. Martyn, Taylor found me a price that was very affordable with Freedom auto transport. I really recommend Martyn and Taylor.

  • I had an outstanding experience with Freedom Auto Transport from start to finish. Their vehicle transport service delivered exactly what was promised with reliable, on-time car shipping and excellent communication throughout the entire auto transport process. A big thank you to Martyn Rothberg and Gerald Spade for going above and beyond. My car shipment from Las Vegas to Anchorage, Alaska actually arrived earlier than expected. Although this created unexpected storage fees with the ocean freight carrier, Martyn and Gerald stepped in immediately and handled everything. Thanks to their persistence, all storage fees were waived and I paid nothing out of pocket. That level of customer service and dedication truly sets this car transport company apart in the auto shipping industry. Most importantly, my vehicle arrived safe, secure, and damage-free. If you need dependable auto transport, car shipping services, or cross-country vehicle transport, Freedom Auto Transport is a company you can trust.

  • I had the absolute best experience with Freedom Auto Transport thanks to Marty! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I needed to ship my car from Florida all the way to Honolulu, and Marty made the entire process seamless and stress-free. His communication was excellent — always clear, responsive, and reassuring every step of the way. He truly went above and beyond to help me secure a spot. Funny enough, when we were on the phone, there wasn’t even an open spot on the ship at first. But while we were talking, one opened up, and Marty wasted no time getting me booked right away. Talk about timing! The whole process was painless, and I couldn’t be more grateful. If you’re looking to ship your car, ask for Marty — l can’t say enough amazing things.

    Holly Forest

  • I shipped 2 cars with Freedom auto transport. Great auto company overall. Communication and interaction with Tony Kline were great. He was very attentive and responsive throughout the whole process. Called him and got my car ship next day and cars were delivered in 2 days from Omaha to California. Will definitely use this company again in the future.

Door-to-door auto transport is a vehicle shipping service where a carrier picks up your car directly from your home, office, or specified location and delivers it to your destination — no terminal drop-off required. Freedom Auto Transport provides fully insured door-to-door car shipping nationwide with no upfront payment, carrier pickup within 1–5 business days, and real-time shipment tracking from booking to delivery.

Door-to-Door vs Terminal-to-Terminal Shipping

When shipping a vehicle, you have two main service options: door-to-door and terminal-to-terminal. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right fit for your situation, budget, and schedule.

What Is Door-to-Door Auto Transport?

With door-to-door shipping, the carrier comes directly to your location for pickup and delivers your vehicle to the address you specify. There are no intermediate stops at storage yards or transfer facilities. The driver handles everything from your starting point to your destination.

This is the most popular option — roughly 85% of auto transport customers choose door-to-door because it eliminates extra trips, saves time, and reduces the risk of miscommunication about drop-off or pickup locations.

What Is Terminal-to-Terminal Shipping?

Terminal-to-terminal requires you to drop your vehicle off at a designated facility (the origin terminal) and then pick it up from another facility near your destination. These terminals are typically storage yards operated by the carrier or a third-party logistics company.

While terminal shipping can occasionally be a few dollars cheaper, you are responsible for getting your vehicle to and from the terminals — which may be 30 to 60 miles from your actual address. You also need to coordinate your schedule around terminal operating hours, and your vehicle may sit in an open lot for several days before a carrier is assigned.

For most customers, door-to-door is the clear choice. It costs about the same, saves hours of driving and coordination, and keeps your vehicle on a carrier rather than sitting in an unattended lot.

How Door-to-Door Pickup and Delivery Works

The door-to-door process is straightforward. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you book until your vehicle is delivered.

  1. Request a quote and book your shipment. Provide your pickup address, delivery address, vehicle year/make/model, and preferred dates. No payment is required until a carrier is assigned.
  2. Carrier assignment and scheduling. Your transport coordinator matches your shipment with a vetted carrier running your route. You receive confirmation with the carrier's name, truck details, and a pickup window — typically a 1 to 3 day range.
  3. Driver contact and pickup. The driver calls you 12 to 24 hours before arrival to confirm timing. At pickup, the driver conducts a thorough vehicle inspection with you, noting any existing wear on the Bill of Lading. Your vehicle is then loaded onto the carrier.
  4. In-transit updates. Your transport coordinator keeps you informed throughout the shipment. For cross-country shipments, you will typically receive check-ins every 24 to 48 hours.
  5. Delivery and final inspection. The driver contacts you 12 to 24 hours before arriving at your delivery address. You and the driver inspect the vehicle together, comparing it against the pickup inspection report. Once confirmed, you sign the delivery receipt.

What If the Carrier Cannot Access My Address?

Car carrier trucks are large — typically 75 to 80 feet long — and need wide roads with adequate clearance. If your address has narrow streets, low-hanging branches, or gated communities, the driver will suggest a nearby meeting point — usually a large parking lot or wide intersection within a few minutes of your address.

Scheduling Your Door-to-Door Shipment

Typical Transit Times

  • Under 500 miles (regional): 1 to 3 days
  • 500 to 1,000 miles: 3 to 5 days
  • 1,000 to 2,000 miles: 5 to 7 days
  • Over 2,000 miles (cross-country): 7 to 10 days
  • Alaska and Hawaii: 2 to 4 weeks (includes ocean freight)

These are estimated transit times after pickup. Carrier assignment typically takes 1 to 5 business days depending on route availability and season.

Peak Seasons and Planning Ahead

  • January through March: Snowbird season. Heavy volume on routes between northern states and Florida, Arizona, and the Carolinas.
  • June through August: Summer relocation season. Military PCS moves, college students, and family relocations create high demand.

Booking 3 to 6 weeks ahead during peak periods gives you the best combination of price and schedule flexibility. Off-peak months typically offer lower rates and faster carrier assignment.

Expedited Shipping

If you need your vehicle picked up within 24 to 48 hours, Freedom Auto Transport offers expedited service. Expedited shipments are prioritized in carrier matching and typically cost 20% to 30% more than standard service. Call 888-509-1102 to discuss expedited options.

What Vehicles Can Be Shipped Door-to-Door?

  • Sedans, coupes, and hatchbacks — the most common shipment type
  • SUVs, crossovers, and trucks — standard and full-size
  • Minivans and cargo vans
  • Motorcycles — crated or on a motorcycle-specific carrier
  • Classic and collector vehicles — typically shipped in enclosed carriers for maximum protection
  • Luxury and exotic vehicles — enclosed transport recommended
  • Non-running vehicles — winch-equipped carrier (additional fee may apply)
  • Electric vehicles (EVs) — battery must be charged to at least 50%

Frequently Asked Questions

You provide your pickup and delivery addresses when booking. A carrier is dispatched to your location — typically within 1 to 5 business days — to load your vehicle onto the transport trailer. The driver delivers your car directly to your destination address, or as close as safely accessible.

Car carrier trucks are typically 70 to 80 feet long. If your street has restricted access, the driver will coordinate a nearby meeting point — usually a large parking lot or wide intersection within a short drive of your address.

Pricing depends on distance, vehicle size, transport type (open vs enclosed), and seasonal demand. Most shipments range from a few hundred dollars for short routes to over a thousand for cross-country moves. Request a free quote for an exact price.

In most cases, pricing is similar. Terminal shipping can occasionally be slightly cheaper, but the savings are often offset by the cost and inconvenience of getting your vehicle to and from a terminal.

Booking 2 to 4 weeks ahead gives you the widest selection of carriers and the most competitive pricing. During peak seasons, 3 to 6 weeks in advance is recommended.

Every carrier in the Freedom Auto Transport network carries cargo insurance as mandated by the FMCSA. This covers your vehicle during loading, transit, and unloading. You can request a copy of the carrier's insurance certificate before pickup.

Most carriers allow up to 100 pounds of personal belongings in the trunk, packed below the window line. No valuables, hazardous materials, or fragile items. Carrier insurance does not cover personal belongings.

Regional shipments (under 500 miles): 1 to 3 days. Cross-country (1,500 to 3,000 miles): 5 to 9 days. Alaska/Hawaii: 2 to 4 weeks including ocean freight.

Someone 18 or older must be present to sign the Bill of Lading and complete the vehicle inspection. You can designate an authorized representative if you cannot be there personally.

A detailed inspection is done at both pickup and delivery on the Bill of Lading. If new damage is found at delivery, it is documented and you can file a claim with the carrier's insurance. Freedom Auto Transport assists with the claims process.
