How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car to or from Florida?

ZonePrice estimateTransit
Southeast & Florida $380–$961 1–3 days

Great Lakes & Ohio Valley $643–$1,299 2–4 days
Texas & South Central $667–$1,269 2–4 days
Northeast & New England $701–$1,376 2–5 days
Mountain West & Southwest $993–$1,595 3–9 days
West Coast & Pacific Northwest $1,106–$1,879 7–10 days

Every price on this page is an estimate based on road miles, shown as a range. The final price depends on your vehicle, your dates and whether you choose open or enclosed transport. A 438-mile Orlando to Atlanta move is estimated at $380–$543. A 1,132-mile New York to Tampa move is estimated at $769–$1,098. Short runs inside Florida, such as Miami to West Palm Beach or Orlando to Tampa, are quoted on request.

Distance is the biggest driver, but price does not grow in step with miles. Orlando to Atlanta (438 miles) is estimated at $380–$543, while Orlando to Los Angeles (2,508 miles) is estimated at $1,106–$1,580. The Los Angeles trip is about 5.7 times as far but costs about 2.9 times as much.

Direction matters very little. The same pair of cities is usually priced within a few dollars both ways, for example Chicago to Orlando and Orlando to Chicago, both $784–$1,120, or Dallas to Tampa at $751–$1,073 and Tampa to Dallas at $750–$1,072. Los Angeles to Orlando is $1,106–$1,581, while Orlando to Los Angeles is $1,106–$1,580. A snowbird who ships a car south in the fall and north in the spring can expect two legs priced about the same.

Other things move the number inside the range:

  • Pickup and delivery location. A car in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando or Tampa sits on a busy corridor with many carriers. A car in a small Panhandle town, the Gulf coast beyond the big metros or a gated community far from the interstate may need a longer detour, which can push the price toward the top of the range.
  • Vehicle size and condition. Trucks, large SUVs and cars that do not run take more room or equipment than a sedan.
  • Open or enclosed. Enclosed trailers cost more than open ones. Our route estimates show one range, so ask for the enclosed price separately.
  • Season. Demand rises on the busiest snowbird lanes in fall and spring, so quotes on those routes can land nearer the top of the range.

Florida Car Shipping by Region

South Florida: Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach

South Florida is a continuous strip of cities along the Atlantic, served by Interstate 95, Florida's Turnpike and US-1, and it is where Freedom Auto Transport is based, in Pompano Beach. Many cars here sit in condo towers, gated communities and narrow beach-area streets where a full-size carrier cannot park, so drivers usually meet at a nearby wide street or large lot. PortMiami and Port Everglades bring in imported vehicles that need to move on. Pompano Beach to Atlanta is 630 miles at $467–$668, West Palm Beach to Atlanta is 598 miles at $473–$676, and Fort Lauderdale to Washington, DC is 1,033 miles at $709–$1,012. Runs within South Florida are short and quoted on request.

Cities 8

Treasure Coast and Space Coast

North of Palm Beach, Interstate 95, Florida's Turnpike and US-1 connect Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach and the Space Coast cities of Melbourne, Palm Bay and Cocoa. These are mid-size markets, so carriers often add them to a run that already starts or ends in South Florida or Orlando, and booking a few days early gives the dispatcher time to fit your car on a truck. Request a quote with your pickup address, vehicle and date and we will confirm the estimate.

Cities 5

Orlando and Central Florida

Orlando sits at the junction of Interstate 4 and Florida's Turnpike, close to the middle of the peninsula, so it is a natural hub for cars moving north, south or across the state. Heavy visitor and commuter traffic around the tourist districts can slow pickups, and many residents live in gated communities with rules about large trucks, so agree on a meeting spot ahead of time. Orlando to Atlanta is 438 miles at $380–$543 and Orlando to Chicago is 1,155 miles at $784–$1,120. Orlando to Los Angeles is 2,508 miles at $1,106–$1,580. Orlando to Tampa and Orlando to Miami are short runs, quoted on request.

Cities 3

Tampa Bay and the Gulf Coast

Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater surround the bay and are linked by Interstates 4, 275 and 75, with Sarasota a little farther south along the Gulf. Waterfront neighborhoods, barrier islands and older grids often have tight streets, so a wide road or shopping center lot is a common handoff point. Tampa to Atlanta is 456 miles at $396–$565, and Tampa to Indianapolis is 990 miles at $686–$980 in 2–3 days. Tampa to Dallas, at 1,105 miles, is estimated at $750–$1,072 and is one of the busiest routes we list from this region.

Cities 4

Southwest Florida

Southwest Florida runs along Interstate 75 and US-41 from Port Charlotte through the Fort Myers area, with Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres among the larger communities. Many homes here are in canal-front and gated neighborhoods that large trucks cannot enter, and seasonal residents often ship cars in and out. Request a quote with your exact address, including for nearby cities such as Fort Myers and Naples, and the driver will confirm the closest practical meeting point.

Cities 3

Jacksonville and Northeast Florida

Jacksonville is the gateway to Georgia and the Southeast, with Interstate 95 running along the coast and Interstates 10 and 75 reaching inland. Farther south, Palm Coast and Daytona Beach sit along the Atlantic, and Gainesville is home to the University of Florida, so pickups cluster around term dates. Dallas to Jacksonville is 992 miles at $687–$982 in 2–3 days. Shorter runs from Jacksonville within Florida and Georgia are quoted on request.

Cities 5

The Panhandle and Tallahassee

The Panhandle is far from the peninsula's main corridors, reached on Interstate 10 from Tallahassee west to Pensacola. Tallahassee is the capital and home to two universities, and the Gulf beach towns such as Santa Rosa Beach, Fort Walton Beach and Gulf Breeze are busiest in summer. Carriers rarely run empty loops here, so book early and be flexible on dates. Denver to Tallahassee is 1,630 miles at $993–$1,418 in 3–5 days.

Cities 4

How Long Does Car Shipping to or from Florida Take?

Plan for two clocks. The first is the pickup window: a carrier is normally assigned and arrives 1–3 business days after booking. The second is transit, which depends on distance. On our routes it runs 1–2 days for trips up to about 700 miles, 2–3 days from 700 to about 1,100 miles, 2–4 days from roughly 1,100 to 1,400 miles, 3–5 days around 1,400 to 1,700 miles, 4–7 days near 1,800 miles, 5–8 days from about 1,800 to 2,500 miles, and 7–9 days at 2,500 to 2,900 miles, with the longest runs from the Pacific Northwest reaching 10 days.

Florida adds a few local factors. Interstate 95 along the Atlantic coast and Florida’s Turnpike carry heavy traffic through South Florida and Orlando, which can add time to pickup and delivery. Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando is busy with commuters and visitors. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer, and during hurricane season a storm or an evacuation can slow or pause carriers on the peninsula. Leaving Florida for the Northeast in winter can mean snow and ice north of Virginia, and road closures can add a day or more to any estimate.

Examples from our route pages: Orlando to Miami (235 miles) is 1–2 days, Miami to Atlanta (665 miles) is 1–2 days, Tampa to Indianapolis (990 miles) is 2–3 days, Miami to Boston (1,496 miles) is 3–5 days, Miami to Denver (2,069 miles) is 5–8 days, and Orlando to Los Angeles (2,508 miles) is 7–9 days.

Pickup is usually scheduled within a 1–3 business day window after booking; transit time depends on the distance.

When to Ship: Florida Seasonality

  • October through January: snowbirds head south Winter residents from the Northeast, the Midwest and Canada bring or ship cars to Florida for the season, and demand builds on the lanes into Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Sarasota and the Gulf coast. Expect busier schedules on routes such as New York to Tampa and Indianapolis to Orlando, and book a week or two ahead if your date is fixed.
  • March through May: snowbirds head north As the season ends, the same cars travel back to the Northeast and the Midwest. Outbound demand from South Florida and Southwest Florida rises, and the busiest weeks are tied to when seasonal residents close up their homes. Reserve your pickup early, especially for enclosed transport.
  • June through November: hurricane season The Atlantic hurricane season can affect scheduling anywhere on the peninsula. When a storm is forecast, carriers may move pickups earlier, delay them or avoid the affected coast, and roads can be crowded during evacuations. Build in extra time during these months and stay in touch with your dispatcher.
  • Late winter and spring break: visitors and students Families and students travel to Florida around spring break, and many Florida colleges and universities also see cars moving in and out at the start and end of each term. Pickups cluster around those weekends in Orlando, Gainesville, Tallahassee and Tampa, so flexible dates help you get a better window.

Open vs Enclosed Car Shipping in Florida

South Florida has a large market for classic, exotic and luxury cars, and the ports at Miami, Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Jacksonville and Tampa handle many vehicles shipped from overseas. Sun, salt air, humidity and sudden summer storms are hard on paint and interiors, so owners of valuable, low-slung or newly delivered cars often choose an enclosed trailer. Open carriers are the standard choice for everyday cars and cost less. Read more about enclosed transport and open transport. Tell us which you want when you request your quote, and we will match your car with the right carrier. Because enclosed trailers hold fewer cars and fewer carriers run them, availability on a given date can be tighter than for open trucks, so book enclosed shipments a little earlier, especially in snowbird season.

Snowbird Car Shipping to and from Florida

Florida’s biggest seasonal pattern is the snowbird migration. From October through January, winter residents from the Northeast, the Midwest and Canada arrive; from March through May, most of them go home. Many choose to fly and ship the car instead of driving two or three days each way. Because our prices are close in both directions, the spring trip home costs about the same as the fall trip down.

The lanes we see most are from the Midwest and the Northeast. Indianapolis to Orlando is 972 miles, estimated $674–$962 in 2–3 days, and Tampa to Indianapolis is 990 miles at $686–$980. Searches for Florida to Indiana are common. Farther north, Orlando to Chicago is 1,155 miles at $784–$1,120 in 2–4 days, and St. Petersburg to Louisville is 900 miles at $643–$918 in 2–3 days. From the Northeast, New York to Orlando is 1,076 miles at $738–$1,054 in 2–3 days, and Hartford to Orlando is 1,188 miles at $807–$1,152 in 2–4 days.

A few habits make the season easier. Book as soon as your travel dates are fixed, because the most popular lanes fill first. Pick a delivery city close to where you will stay, such as West Palm Beach, Cape Coral or the Tampa Bay area, and arrange for someone to meet the driver if you are still traveling. Remember that the pickup window of 1–3 business days comes before transit, so for a mid-November arrival, schedule the pickup in early November. In spring, ship the car north before you leave if you want it waiting at home, and tell us if your northern street is narrow or has parking rules.

Shipping a Car Within Florida

Moving a car inside Florida is the quickest kind of shipment we handle, and the state’s long, narrow shape means most trips are under 500 miles. Miami to West Palm Beach, Orlando to Tampa, Jacksonville to Orlando, Orlando to Miami and Miami to Tampa are all in this range. Because these runs are short, request a quote with your pickup and delivery addresses and we will confirm the estimate.

On a short in-state trip the pickup window can be the longest part of the timeline. Plan on the standard 1–3 business days after booking, then add transit. A pickup from a condo, a gated community or a busy street takes planning, because drivers cannot always park a full-size trailer there. The first step is usually agreeing on a wide street or lot nearby, and a call to the property office can settle any rule about trucks.

People often weigh a drive against shipping, for example when a car is changing owners, moving between a summer and a winter home, or heading back from a dealer. Compare the estimate with fuel, tolls, a hotel night and a day off work. Routes between the big metros also run often, so carriers on the Miami, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville corridors are easy to find, which keeps short trips competitive. From our home base in Pompano Beach, Pompano Beach to Orlando is a short run that we quote on request.

Shipping a Car from Florida to the Northeast

The Northeast is the most common destination for cars leaving Florida after the snowbird season, and I-95 is the main road between the two. Prices are close in both directions, so the same number applies whether you are shipping home in the spring or sending a car down in the fall. New York to Orlando is 1,076 miles, estimated at $738–$1,054, with 2–3 days of transit.

From the Tampa Bay area, New York to Tampa is 1,132 miles at an estimated $769–$1,098 in 2–4 days. For South Florida, Philadelphia to Pompano Beach is 1,163 miles, estimated $790–$1,128, 2–4 days. Central Florida pairs well with New England: Hartford to Orlando is 1,188 miles at $807–$1,152, 2–4 days.

The Mid-Atlantic is closer. Baltimore to Orlando is 887 miles at $633–$905 in 2–3 days, Philadelphia to Orlando is 987 miles at $684–$977, Philadelphia to St. Petersburg is 1,065 miles at $731–$1,044, and Baltimore to Miami is 1,097 miles at $753–$1,075. Pompano Beach to Washington, DC is 1,022 miles at $701–$1,002, 2–3 days. If you ship in late winter or early spring, ask about snow and ice north of Virginia, because a storm on the Northeast end can add a day or more. Choose a delivery spot with a wide street or a lot, since many Northeast addresses are in older neighborhoods.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our estimates on Florida routes range from $380–$543 for Orlando to Atlanta to $1,190–$1,700 for Pompano Beach to Los Angeles. Typical examples: Tampa to Atlanta $396–$565, Baltimore to Orlando $633–$905, Tampa to Indianapolis $686–$980, New York to Tampa $769–$1,098, Orlando to Los Angeles $1,106–$1,580. These are estimates based on road miles, and the final price depends on your vehicle, dates and open or enclosed transport. Short runs inside Florida are quoted on request.

After booking, a carrier is normally assigned within 1–3 business days. Transit is then 1–2 days from Atlanta, 2–3 days from Baltimore, New York, Indianapolis, Houston or Dallas, 2–4 days from Chicago or Hartford, 3–5 days from Denver to Tallahassee, 5–8 days from Phoenix or Denver to Orlando, and 7–9 days from Los Angeles. A hurricane or a winter storm can add more.

Indianapolis to Orlando is 972 miles, estimated $674–$962, with 2–3 days of transit. Tampa to Indianapolis is 990 miles at $686–$980, also 2–3 days. Add the usual 1–3 business days for a carrier to be assigned. Prices are close in both directions, so Orlando to Indianapolis is priced much like Indianapolis to Orlando.

Not usually, but plan for flexibility between June and November. If a storm is forecast, carriers may move pickups earlier, delay them or avoid the affected coast, and evacuation traffic can slow roads. Book as early as you can, keep your phone number current, and tell us if you need to move the car before a storm. We will adjust the schedule with the driver.

Often yes, but large trucks are not always allowed inside. If the community or building limits trucks, the driver will meet you at a nearby wide street or parking lot, where you sign the inspection report at pickup. Check the property's rules, give us the gate details, and have someone present at both ends. Take your own photos of the car before it leaves.

Yes. Enclosed carriers serve Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Orlando and Tampa, and are a common choice for classic, exotic or new luxury cars. Enclosed costs more than open transport, and our route estimates show one range, so ask for an enclosed quote when you request prices for your route. Book earlier than you would for open transport, especially in snowbird season.

Everyone I spoke to at Freedom was extremely helpful and friendly. Very pleased with my experience and would 10000% recommend Freedom to anyone that needs auto transport service. Thanks again..”
Darlene Robertson
“Freedom was great, Dan S. with Freedom was the only carrier who could deliver on the dates I needed. I contacted several transporters, the prices and dates changed every 5 minutes. Dan was very helpful every step of the way, and extremely reasonable! I will use these guys from this point forward, make one call and it’s a done deal! Thanks Dan!”
Guy Hawkins
Freedom Auto Transport runs a solid operation. Dorian is the reason I chose this carrier even though I had all but agreed to work with a different hauler. He was fast to return my calls, texted frequently, and used all his contacts to arrange a quick turnaround on the 4Runner I shipped. He almost managed to get a same day pick-up but the dealership I was working with couldn’t complete the paperwork in time for an evening pick up. Easy paperwork/signatures. No heavy sales pitch. Just familiarity with how the industry works, good relationships to leverage, and the urgency to help. I think he really feels good knowing he’s helping to deliver something meaningful to others. Ive used different companies each time I’ve shipped a vehicle but the next time I need a car or truck shipped, I want to work with Dorian. Cheers!
